Joshua Gilbert "Jiggs" Paraiso presently handles litigation, corporate rehabilitation and intellectual property cases for the firm. He received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law in 1997 and was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1998. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree Major in Legal Management from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1993. He started his law career with the Bengzon Law Firm and thereafter with the Puno& Puno Law Offices.

He was formerly the Chairman of the Legal Aid Program of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), Makati City Chapter from 2001 to 2002, during which he supervised and handled pro bono cases and free legal clinics for indigent clients and in relation thereto he was conferred a Special Award as Outstanding Private Prosecutor by the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), an anti-crime and corruption watchdog group.

He also served as consultant to the Philippine Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) from July 2001 to January 2003 and to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) from October 2006 to March 2008.

  • Acts as lead counsel for the Corporate Rehabilitation Case of a group of companies involved in the mining industry with liabilities exposure of US$433 Million and as lead counsel for a Special Purpose Asset Vehicle (SPVs) client relative to its Php3.5 Billion loan exposure in the corporate rehabilitation case of a debtor company. Scope of work includes drafting and preparation of the Petition for Corporate Rehabilitation including the rehabilitation plan, various pleadings and filings with the rehabilitation court as well as the appellate courts, attendance in the rehabilitation proceedings, rendering legal opinions and advices on debt restructuring and review of various loan agreements and related contracts, corporate and financial documents as well as other commercial contracts
  • Successfully won Debtor-Initiated Petitions for Corporate Rehabilitation for a Major Water Utility Company and a Hotel and handled and represented different Bank clients in Debtor-Initiated as well as Creditor-Initiated Petitions for Corporate Rehabilitation
  • Currently representing a subsidiary of a listed power generation company in its application for the approval of a Power Sales Contract with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
  • Prepared and drafted legal opinions for debtor and creditor clients relative to Corporate Debt Restructuring and Rehabilitation
  • Acts as lead counsel for litigation in relation to the various non-performing loans (NPL) and acquired assets held by Special Purpose Asset Vehicle (SPV) clients. Scope of work includes legal advice and representation in civil cases involving sum of money, foreclosure of mortgages, writs of possession and corporate rehabilitation proceedings and other related cases including applications for temporary restraining orders and writs of injunction before the Regional Trial Courts of the Philippines, the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court
  • Assisted Corporate and Bank Clients in Loan Restructuring and Refinancing and on legal issues and strategies relative to their loan exposures. Scope of work included contract Review and legal opinion for Bank Trustee Clients In Security Credit And Trust Agreements and collaborated and worked with foreign financial consultants for client's corporate debt restructuring
  • Handled strategic preparations for corporate rehabilitation of a major holding company and its subsidiaries and affiliates and for corporate rehabilitation of an electric cooperative in collaboration with the National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR)
  • Acts as lead counsel for various intra-corporate suits involving domestic corporations and rendered legal opinions and advices to clients in relation thereto
  • Dealt with intra-corporate issues of domestic corporations pertaining to voluntary administratorship proceedings undertaken abroad by related foreign companies vis--vis corporate rehabilitation of domestic companies
  • Acts as lead counsel for various intellectual property cases before the Intellectual Property Office and the Regional Trial Courts for international and domestic corporate clients. Scope of work includes both the prosecution and defense of clients in trademark and copyright infringement cases, unfair competition and inter-partes cases
  • Represented one of the Largest Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies in the United States in its various intellectual property concerns and in its contracts with local subcontractors and collaborated with a US law firm in the course of the work. Scope of work included applications for search warrant in intellectual property infringement cases and violations of the Philippine E-Commerce Law initiated by the client and coordination with various law enforcement agencies for the enforcement thereof
  • Acted as counsel for various recording companies and an international and leading manufacturer of audio products and accessories in the prosecution of their intellectual property infringement cases
  • Acts as legal counsel and represents clients of the firm for nullity of marriage cases
  • Acts as counsel for a local mining company in relation to its mining claims in a case pending before the Supreme Court of the Philippines
  • Represented and adviced clients engaged in the power industry in Power Rates issues under the EPIRA Law in proceedings before the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and the appellate courts
  • Acted as part of legal team which conducted due diligence work for a foreign client on the acquisition of a tollways corporation.   • Acted as part of the legal team which conducted Corporate Due Diligence For A Power Generation Company For ISO Certification And for Power Plant Acquisitions.
