Philippine PPP Program Gets Into Gear

The first public-private partnership (PPP) project of the current Philippine Government was successfully awarded today to the Ayala Group which won the bid for the P1.96-billion Daang Hari-South Luzon Expressway link road project.

The Department of Public Works and Highways was reported to have declared Ayala, in partnership with Spanish engineering group Getinsan Ingineieria, submitted the winning bid of PhP902 Million against the PhP608 Million-bid submitted by the San Miguel-led consortium.

The toll road business marks the diversification of the Ayala Group core businesses from real estate, banking and telecommunications to include infrastructure and energy.

The Daang Hari-SLEX Link road is expected to begin operations by August 2013, according to the DPWH web site.

The project is a four-kilometer, four-lane thoroughfare that will link Bacoor, Cavite to the South Luzon Expressway through Susana Heights.

With the success of the Daang Hari bid, the Philippine Government is expected to roll out within 2012 the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Connector, Puerto Princesa Airport Development, PPP for School Infrastructure Project and Vaccine Self-Sufficiency Project (Phase II).
