PHL Government to bid out MRT 3 expansion

The Philippine Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) has issued an invitation to bid for the capacity expansion project of the MRT 3.

The P3.7B project includes the procurement of 48 light rail vehicles which will be designed in accordance with the existing configuration of the MRT 3. The new coaches is expected to “enhance passenger convenience, improve reliability, reduce passengers’ waiting time, and decongest crowded passenger platforms.” Currently, the MRT 3 caters to 500,000 passenger’s everyday which is beyond the normal capacity of 350,000 passengers.

Interested parties have until 22 March 2013 to submit their bids with the DOTC.
