First PPP Hospital Project Awarded

December 17, 2013

The modernisation of the Philippine Orthopedic Center (POC) has been awarded to Megawide Construction Corp. - World Citi, Inc. Consortium, the sole bidder in the Philippines’ first hospital project to be undertaken through the Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) Program.

The PhP5.70 billion project involves the construction of a new 700-bed capacity super-specialty tertiary orthopaedic hospital. Megawide Construction Corp. - World Citi, Inc. Consortium will design, build, finance, operate and maintain the new facility for 25 years, before transferring the facility to the Department of Health (DOH) at zero cost.

The new POC is envisioned to bring superior medical services to the poor, with 70% of its bed capacity dedicated to charity and Philhealth-sponsored patients. It is set to be the model for the other hospital PPP projects, which includes the modernisation of the National Center for Mental Health and the Region 1 Medical Center.

PJS Law’s Infrastructure Practice Group advises the DOH for the POC Project. Partner Luther D. Ramos leads the team composed of Associates Rachel M. Diaz, Sheryl F. Balot, and Salma A. Kuhutan.
