Latest Minimum Wage Increase in Metro Manila

March 26, 2015

On March 18, 2015, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (“RTWPB”) of the National Capital Region (“NCR”) approved a resolution granting a PhP15.00 increase in the daily basic minimum wage, and continuing the PhP15.00 Cost of Living Allowance (“CoLA”) in effect since January 2014. Thus, the minimum wage in Metro Manila will effectively be raised to PhP444.00 for those working in the agricultural sector, and PhP481.00 for those working in non-agricultural businesses.

The chairman of the NCR RTWPB, Mr. Alex V. Avila, clarified that the wage order applies to minimum wage earners only. The wage hike will take effect within fifteen (15) days after publication, or sometime around April 2015. “Distressed” establishments, retail, and other service businesses regularly employing up to ten (10) workers, and establishments or businesses affected by natural calamities, may apply for a one-year exemption from the coverage of the new wage order.

Such wage hike marks the fifth increase under the Aquino administration.
